Frequently Asked Questions

  • What is a school board?

    Posted by:
Answer: It is a legislative body that is elected locally to serve as an agent of the General Assembly in providing the constitutionally mandated system of public education. Each elected school board consists of nine members serving 4-year terms. Although they are selected locally, these individuals (known as school directors) actually are state officials because they are charged with carrying out the state's requirements for public schools.
